Dallas Dermatology Partners is proud to offer the most technologically advanced laser resurfacing treatments to address photo-aged skin. The Contour TRL delivers impressive results for deep wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. This tunable erbium laser is one of the safest and most effective ablative modalities available and can be used to rejuvenate mature and sun-damaged skin.
The Sciton Contour TRL is predominantly used for deeper laser resurfacing treatment but can also be adjusted for a more shallow microlaser peel. Thanks to its versatility, safety profile, and precision, the Contour TRL laser is important in our roster of anti-aging treatments. It provides dramatic results for deep-set lines and even treats rhinophyma-- a skin condition on the nose characterized by enlarged and thickened oil glands.
This cutting-edge tunable Erbium Yag laser rejuvenates the skin without scalpels or a lengthy recovery period. The skin resurfacing treatment is customized according to your skin type, concerns, and cosmetic goals. Our dermatologists can treat the skin with micron precision, removing damaged layers while the laser energy stimulates new collagen growth. This protein provides structural support to the skin, improving resilience and elasticity.
The Sciton Contour TRL effectively treats signs of severe photodamage, among other skin conditions.
- Perioral wrinkles which are deep wrinkles and lines around the mouth
- Deep creases on the forehead and face
- Fine lines around the eyes
- Sunspots, age spots, and hyperpigmentation
- Actinic keratosis
- Acne scars
- Rough texture
- Rhinophyma
- Uneven skin tone
One of the advantages of Contour TRL is that it is safe for all skin types, even darker skin tones that don’t respond well to other lasers. A one-on-one consultation with our board-certified dermatologists will determine if you’re a good candidate for this Erbium laser treatment. The Contour TRL is primarily used to treat severe wrinkles on the face, neck, and chest, but it can safely treat mature and sun-damaged skin on other body parts.
Patients may be asked to stop taking supplements or medications that thin the blood, such as fish oil, aspirin, and ibuprofen. Topical products containing retinol and retinoids should be avoided for one day before the laser treatment. Those who are prone to developing cold sores may be prescribed prophylactic antibiotics.
This ablative Erbium laser treats deeper layers of skin, so patients will need a local anesthetic administered subcutaneously. In addition, patients will wear protective eyewear during the treatment, which can last anywhere from 20-40 minutes, depending on the amount of skin being treated.
As with many deep laser resurfacing treatments, patients can expect some pinpoint bleeding, redness, and swelling for the first 48 to 72 hours. The skin may feel warm and tight, similar to a bad sunburn. The treated skin will usually ooze or weep, which is a normal part of the healing process. The redness, or erythema, will gradually subside but can take up to four weeks to resolve. It is imperative to avoid picking at the skin and keep it protected with a skin barrier ointment like Aquaphor.
The amount of downtime and recovery after Contour TRL laser depends on the depth and extent of treatment. Generally speaking, patients should take 7 to 10 days off after a moderate peel and plan on two weeks of downtime after an aggressive laser treatment. Over-the-counter pain medications can alleviate discomfort.
Once the skin has peeled and there is no need for occlusive barriers, patients can use mineral makeup to camouflage residual redness and help promote healing. A broad-spectrum sunblock should be used on a daily basis, and it’s best to avoid direct sun exposure for at least six weeks post-treatment.
Initial improvements in wrinkle reduction and skin texture will be evident within a couple of weeks of the Contour TRL procedure. However, it takes time for new collagen to form, so allow at least 6 months to realize the final results: a smoother, tighter, more even-toned complexion that looks years younger.
